    Loving God

Over the next few days let’s take a look at what it means to Love God.  The scripture we will be looking at is found in several places in the Bible.  Matt. 22:34-40; Mark 12: 28-31; Luke 10:27; Deuteronomy 6:1-9.

    MARK 12:30

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Love = the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration.  The root word in Mark 12: 28-31 comes from the word Agapeo which means beloved.  This gives us the sense of a much loved person.  After some study it also infers breath, which would encourage us to love God with every breath we have been given to breathe.  To love Him with an unreserved devotion.

We will be looking at four areas that Mark mentions that may give us some insight and practical ideas on how we can grow in our love for God.

Meditate: I John 4:19 “We love because He first loved us.”

Song: How deep the Father’s Love for us by Joy Williams (listen here)

God loves you more than you can imagine.  He longs to spend time with you.  Take a moment and just let God love you.  You are His beloved child. BE LOVED today.

    Loving God – HEART

    MARK 12:30

“Love the Lord your God with all your HEART and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Heart = the central or innermost part of someone.  Root word is Kardia in Greek which means feelings.

To love God with all your heart would require you to embrace all your emotions.  When you are upset, afraid, hurt, God wants to know.  When you are experiencing pleasure, peace, passion – God wants to join you there, too.

Take a moment and reflect: How’s your heart?  Tell God about it – His heart is for you.  Imagine crawling up into the loving protective arms of your Heavenly father and telling Him what has been going on in your heart.  Allow him to comfort you, to calm you, to rejoice with you.

Meditate:  Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Song: Goodness of God by Bethel (listen here)

God is for you.  He wants to spend time with you.  He cares about your heart.  Allow the truth of how much He loves you to soak up into your thirsty heart today.  You are His masterpiece.  You Matter to God.

    Loving God – SOUL

    MARK 12:30

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your SOUL and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

Soul = immaterial essence.  The root word = psuche meaning breathe or spirit.  The eternal part of our being that leads to life not just on earth but forever.  Psalm 118 states over and over the Love of the Lord endures forever.  “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  His love endures forever.”

Today is a great time to start a thankfulness journey.  Maybe start a journal.  Put up post-it notes to remind you of all the things you have to be thankful for.  Put reminders on your phone.  Live a life of love through the very thoughts you think about God, yourself, and the life He has given you.  The very air we breathe is a gift from God.  Embrace it.  Be Love in the depths of your soul.

Meditate:  Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever.  Psalm 118:1

Song:  Forever by Chris Tomlin (listen here)

God’s love is never ending.  He loves you with such a deep love that nothing could ever separate you from His love for you.  Take a moment and allow your heart that may have been ridden with guilt or deep wounds to hear His voice.  He loves you.  God of the heavens Loves YOU!

    Loving God – MIND

    MARK 12:30

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your MIND and with all your strength.”

Mind = the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences.  The root word – dianoia meaning deep thought, imagination, understanding.  It is important to recognize we are impacted by what we allow into our minds.  The things we think about, what we view or listen to, and even the friends we have all leave an impression on our minds and how we view ourselves.

Take a moment to examine your world.  What are the things around you saying to you?  How are they challenging you to grow in your relationship with God?  Do you need to make some changes, set some boundaries, or cut off some things?  To love God with your mind is to give Him a chance to speak His truth to you.

Meditate: “Set your mind on things above.” Colossians 3:2

Song: Canyons by Cory Asbury (listen here)

You are enough.  You are loved.  You are a treasured possession. You are secure in the arms of Jesus.  He sees you.  He is near you.  HE LOVES YOU.  All day today reflect on the Truth of how God sees you.  Rewire your thoughts with Truth.

    Loving God – STRENGTH

    MARK 12:30

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your STRENGTH.”

Strength = the capacity to withstand great force or pressure.  Root word – ischus – to be healthy, gain prevail against, power.  To love God with all your strength is to recognize the power that comes in our weakness.  Tap into the source: GOD.  He is your strength.  To love Him with your strength would imply you are actually leaning into Him to withstand the stress of life.

You may find yourself in a place of feeling weary, overwhelmed, or burdened.  In this season of your life, find strength in the source.  He is your ever present help in times of trouble - the power at work within us because we believe in Jesus Christ.  Eph 1:19.  You may feel powerless, but know the One who holds the power and can help you overcome.

Meditate:  Ephesians 6: 10 “Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.”

Song:  The Story I’ll Tell by Maverick City Music (listen here)

Stand Firm.  Find your strength to love like Jesus by being loved by Jesus.  Then you will be strengthened with His persistent pursuit of you.  Tell your story.  Not only will it strengthen you, but will also encourage others.

Love God – He Loved You First!

If there is any doubt that you have a relationship with God, reach out to Him – he hears you and longs to meet you exactly where you are today.  It is a decision that you will not regret.  There isn’t a day that I am not thankful for His love in my life.  I hope you choose to ask HIm to forgive you, make you new, and give you an eternal sense of what real Love feels like.  You are so important – God sent His son for you.  He did not want to spend eternity without you!

May you know the deep and unending love of our Heavenly Father.  His love is better than anything I have ever experienced.
